Someday is Today

Someday isn’t a guarantee; it’s a decision.

🎙️ 3 Key Lessons from Someday Is Today 🎙️

Matthew Dicks' Someday Is Today is one of the biggest reasons this newsletter exists and isn’t just the 'cool idea’ I talk about after a few beers.

Here are three lessons from the book that have been tweaked for you creative humans:

1. Master the Art of Time Fragmentation

  • What it means: Instead of waiting for a perfect block of free time, learn to maximise the small moments in your day.

  • How it helps: Whether waiting for your next gig, commuting, or between tasks, use these moments to jot down lyrics, experiment with melodies, or sketch out new concepts. Creativity thrives in these small bursts when you consistently show up for your craft.

2. Prioritise Ruthlessly

  • What it means: Not everything on your to-do list deserves your attention. Focus on what directly contributes to your creative goals.

  • How it helps: Saying no to distractions or projects that don’t align with your vision allows you to channel your energy into the stuff that actually moves the needle like honing your skills, booking gigs, creating content (everyone’s favourite)

3. Create Accountability Systems

  • What it means: Set deadlines, share your goals with others, and build a support system to keep yourself on track.

  • How it helps: Announce your next release or a new creative project to your audience before it’s ready. This self-imposed accountability can motivate you to meet your goals and create consistently.

Someday isn’t a guarantee; it’s a decision. Take actionable steps now to build momentum and consistently move toward your creative ambitions. Apply these lessons to your process, and find that today holds far more potential than "someday" ever will.

I decided that I would fly to Japan‘someday’ and that day was going to be the 4th of Feb. I won’t have my laptop and I don’t want to rush posts out that don’t provide value. I need to rest and recharge and come back bright-eyed and bushy-tailed next month.

I’m reading Morgan Housel’s Psychology of Money so expect some ‘not-financial’ advice in future posts.

See you in March.
