Planning Your Social Media 😑
You became an artist to produce art, not content, but this is unfortunately par for the course because there are plenty of artists are willing to put this work in to give them an advantage. Social Media does not have to be a slog.
🎯 Why Plan 6 Months Ahead?
Social media success will not come from posting randomly— (or simply posting your gig schedule in your IG story) it’s about consistency and strategy. Planning your content 6 months in advance can:
Free up mental space to focus on your music (this is reason enough to plan ahead)
Ensure you stay active online, even during busy periods.
Help capitalise on important dates like album drops, gigs, or holidays.
🧠 Your 6-Month Plan: What to Include
Here’s how to structure your calendar:
Recurring Content Themes:
Mondays: Gig or other project updates.
Wednesdays: Behind-the-scenes snippets (studio time, song-writing)
Fridays: Spotlight a great gig in the past week or future collaborations.
Special Events:
Album or single launches.
Tour/collaboration announcements.
Public holidays or other important gigs/dates.
Flexibility:
Leave space for spontaneous posts to keep things fresh. I would allow for 1-2 of these posts per week.
📅 Action Step: Start Your Calendar Today
Don’t wait for the right time to start this— just start. Try planning this 6-month block with pen and paper or follow the below instructions:
Open a spreadsheet or use a tool like Notion or Trello (mentioned in a previous post)
Create columns for dates, post topics, platform, and visuals needed (can even store your captions here for an easy copy/paste later).
Create template post boarders in Canva
Block 2-3 hours this week to plan the next 6 months
Don’t forget, sharing a meme or making personal content about your life is a great way to be able to keep posting without feeling like you need to film a masterpiece for it to be worth posting. People like to see what you get up to, this what they connect with.
See you next Tuesday,
Daniel
